New RoAR News Is Live
New Rochelle Against Racism (New RoAR) announced the launch of its new online newsletter, New RoAR News, at the City Council’s monthly “Citizens To Be Heard” session yesterday.
Speaking for New RoAR, a multiracial, multigenerational anti-racist community organization, longtime New Rochelle resident Bruce Soloway contrasted the city’s rhetoric about diversity and racial justice with its continuing abuse of its citizens of color and other marginalized groups.
Reviewing New RoAR’s eight years of efforts to work with the city government to address longstanding racial injustices, Soloway said that New RoAR has begun to think of the monthly “Citizens to Be Heard” meeting as “Citizens to Be Ignored,” and promised that New RoAR News would amplify the voices of the city’s financially poor and politically and socially disenfranchised people in their struggle for fairness and inclusion.
“We will be working every day,” he said, quoting Ida B. Wells, to “right wrongs by shining the light of truth on them.” Watch New RoAR’s full statement here.
