Congressman Bowman joins New Rochelle’s Earth Day walking tour
The walking tour concluded at the site of the proposed Starbucks drive-through next to Bracey Apartments.
Congressman Jamaal Bowman and other community leaders attended New Rochelle’s Earth Day Environmental Justice Rally and Walking Tour on April 23, 2022. The walking tour visited historic sites in New Rochelle’s Pugsley Hollow community, a Black enclave largely destroyed by toxic development, and concluded at the Bracey Apartments, the city’s last public housing development, where developers have received the city’s approval to build a drive-through Starbucks facility on an adjacent lot.
“We all deserve a decent place to live,” said Lisa Burton, one of the organizers of the event. “We have to remember this is about racial justice, social justice, and economic justice,” said Raya Salter, Esq., of the Energy Justice Law and Policy Center.
