City Postpones March 10 Public Hearing on Downtown Development
“Citizens To Be Heard” Will Occur as Scheduled
According to a City Council agenda notice posted today, the public hearing on downtown development scheduled for March 10 has been postponed. The notice did not include a new date for the meeting or an explanation for the postponement, A mailing from the community group Enough Is Enough said that the hearing had been rescheduled for April 14.

The Council’s regular Citizens To Be Heard session will be held as scheduled on March 10 at 7 pm, offering residents an opportunity to speak on downtown development or other topics of concern.
The official public hearing was scheduled to obtain public input on a proposed amendment tot the city’s downtown development plan, which could affect all future development in New Rochelle. Enough Is Enough called the hearing “a real window of opportunity to effect change.”
Since New Rochelle’s downtown development plan was initiated a decade ago, activists have been calling for the process to provide more affordable housing, local union hiring, meaningful community benefits, adequate green space, and greater accountability. Those issues will undoubtedly be raised when the public hearing is rescheduled and may also be heard at any opportunity when city leaders meet with their constituents.
