Candidates Announced for School and Library Boards

Five candidates will compete for two vacancies on the New Rochelle Board of Education in voting on May 20

Candidates have been announced for the New Rochelle Board of Education and Library Board elections scheduled for Tuesday, May 20th.  Five candidates will be competing for two open positions on the Board of Education: Myriam Decime, Elana Jacobs, Jessica Klein, Rosa Rivera-McCutchen, and Keith SingletaryCorey Galloway will be running unopposed for a third term on the Library Board.

Board of Education members are elected to serve for five years, and Library Board Trustees to serve for two years.  All candidates submitted the petition signatures required to appear on the ballot on April 30.

Also on May 20th, voters will also be asked to approve the proposed budgets for the City School District of New Rochelle and the New Rochelle Public Library for 2025-26.

All registered voters in New Rochelle can vote in the School and Library elections, regardless of whether they own property or have children enrolled in the public schools.

Community groups have organized several forums where voters will have the opportunity to meet and question the candidates for the Board of Education.

The League of Women Voters will hold an in-person candidate forum on Monday, May 12, at 6 pm at City Hall.  

The New Rochelle PTA Council (PTAC) will hold an in-person forum on Friday, May 16, at 7 pm in the Whitney Young Auditorium at New Rochelle High School.  

And the New Rochelle Chapter of the NAACP will hold an online forum with the Board of Education candidates on Sunday, May 18, at 4 pm on Zoom (Meeting ID: 997 9688 1792, Passcode: 607622).

The New Rochelle Public Library will host a budget information session at the Library on Monday, May 5, at 5:30 pm.  

The School District has been hosting a series of meetings on the proposed school budget, which will continue in the coming weeks.
